As I’ll be heading down to Leadenhall Market to welcome the triumphant riders and hopefully grab an interview or two with them, I won’t have my laptop with me when they actually complete the journey, so I thought I’d get this last update in early!
Leadenhall Market
If you’re in the Insurance business then there’s probably not a lot I can tell you about Leadenhall that you don’t already know, at least relating to it’s proximity to Lloyds of London.
So let me try and cover a few things you might not know…
Right in the heart of the City of London, Leadenhall Market dates back to the 14th Century, originally built by Simon Eyre, a draper as a ‘common garner of corn for the use of this city’.
These days the market primarily houses cheesemongers, butchers and florists. There are also clothes shops and a number of bars, one of which (The Lamb) is the finishing point of the Ride.
Harry Potter fans will be keen to know that it was used as the backdrop for ‘The Leaky Cauldron’ and Diagon Alley in The Philosopher’s Stone.
It has also been used in fulms such as The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (which wasn’t very good if truth be told) and Hearafter.
Marathon runners also passed through the market during the 2012 Olympic games, which is a sight to behold after it was renovated in the early 90’s.
With that covered off, let’s take one more look at the total!
Another drumroll please…
We are OVER £13,000!
£13,265 to be precise!
Including Gift Aid and the money collected earlier that’s a whopping £15,278.75
Thank you so much everyone! I hope you’ve enjoyed the updates and keeping track of the team as they made their epic journey, it’s been a pleasure to bring them to you!
Please keep following the LIVE UPDATES page, as I’ll be putting a few more on throughout the course of the night using my phone.
Until next time!
