The Charity

In 2024 we are proud be riding for MovSaúde!

MovSaúde is a charity created to support positive physical health, cancer prevention and to encourage cancer research, particularly for colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in developed countries and results from the uncontrolled production of cells in the inner lining of the colon or rectum. It is a silent disease and can develop asymptomatically over a 10-year period, worsening the number of cases diagnosed at advanced stages.

Every year, around 500,000 new cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed in Europe, and this number is expected to increase substantially [+26%] by 2040.

In 2020, around 240,000 patients died from this type of cancer.

In Portugal, Colorectal cancer is the type of cancer with the highest number of new cases diagnosed and the second highest in terms of mortality.

The year 2022 was marked by 10,575 confirmed diagnoses and +4,800 deaths and the incidence in the under-50 age group has risen from 5% to 10% in the last 10 years.

To help reduce these alarming numbers MovSaúde have three main aims:

  • Scale up CRC screening – Become a relevant player in prevention & early diagnosis
  • Elevate health literacy – Promote the adoption of healthier habits through information sharing
  • Support science – Keep-up with new insights and support clinical trials

Funds raised by this year’s Ride4Life will support the delivery of the above, helping the team make progress to support those in need.
