Rejuvenated by their stop at Abbots Ripton Post Office, and the generosity of the locals there, the team hopped back on the road and began making their way towards the outskirts of Cambridge, in pursuit of their next stopping point; Shepreth.
Everything is still running smoothly and they are making good time. Plus Adam has had some breakfast so all is well in the support vehicle too!
Before we take a closer look at Shepreth, let’s see what the total donations are up to…
12,750.45! Plus the £40 from Abbots makes 12,790.45!
With Gift Aid included that’s just shy of £15,000!
Can I make a request though? Can the next person to donate please add 55p on, it’s driving my mild OCD off the charts!
Right…
Shepreth
Another one in the Doomsday Book (I’m starting to think everywhere falls into this category) listed as Esceprid, which is quite a bit different to it’s present day name, which translates as Sheep Stream.
Why? Well Shepreth is home to a ‘Sheep Bridge’ where said animals would be washed on their way to Cambridge, where one can only presume they were put out to pasture and lived long, carefree lives… right?
There has also been evidence found that the location could well have been a lakeside settlement, as Stone Age tools were discovered in the area.
Speaking of ‘Lakeside’, that isn’t Shepreth’s only tenuous link to our starting location of Doncaster, as they ALSO have a Wildlife Park, and their respective websites look very similar.
Housing everything from Aardvarks and Alligators to White Lipped Tamarins, our riders will be hoping to channel their inner Cheetahs and keep up their record breaking pace.
Just for full disclosure the wildlife park doesn’t have any Cheetahs, I used a bit of creative license there. They do have Rabbits though, although who’s paying to go and see them when you can pop into Pets at Home for free I have no idea.
Shepreth also has a Church, a Railway Station and two pubs; The Green Man and The Plough.
To quote ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin (purely because I can’ ‘That’s all I’ve got to say about that!’
Next stop… The Fish and Eels Pub!
