Training Update…of sorts!

So, my first blog for Ride4Life 2021…What shall I write about? My training progress?….Hmm….that would require some actual progress in my training wouldn’t it!

Like many, I presumed that yet another revolution around the sun would trigger a “new me”. For the first few days of January it did. Turbo set up in the kitchen, 30mins every morning before work and a bit longer at weekends. I ended up riding every single day in January.

This prompted me to take on my first cycling challenge of the year and February saw me ride a total of 500miles that month, raising funds for Alzheimer’s Society. A close family member has been recently diagnosed with this horrible disease so personally it meant a lot to support them. As always, a big thank you to those who donated.

Onto March…Well, let’s just say that the work/life balance tipped very much in one direction. The same for April too. Safe in the knowledge that I’d banked some miles earlier in the year I let things slip. Silly really because it is the combination of exercise and short-term goal setting from cycling that tends to keep me sane!

Gave myself a kick up the backside and did my best to get out and ride whenever I could in May. Only the weather and laziness standing in my way.

June. June was emotional. I organised a little memorial ride for Andy and Damien. A few of us stretched both lockdown rules and our legs, getting a few miles on the track here in Doncaster. It was good. It was fun. Just mucking about on our bikes and enjoying the social aspect of cycling. Andy & Damo would have enjoyed it I’m sure.

As the world started to return to normal in July, I was able to take advantage of commuting to the Doncaster office a few days a week. A few miles under the belt each day is good for mind, body & soul. The sight of me in lycra is probably not so good for everyone else!

And now it is suddenly August. The Ride4Life is in a matter of weeks. We have a century ride arranged this weekend so if I’ve still got energy after that then I’ll you know how it went.

Stay safe
